The Dregs: Public Enemy No. 1 - the alcohol issue

In the area I live in we read an ever-increasing flow of letters and articles bemoaning the massive problems produced by alcohol consumption, on our roads, in our homes and streets, by our youth and in the health and behaviour of every age group. The issue is coming to a head with a new development that plans to put a bottle shop on a quiet suburban street of families with young children. There are already two pubs and 3 bottle shops in one tiny town. This in an area with higher-than-average underage drinking, depression, violent crime, burglary, break-ins, rapes, domestic violence, drug abuse, homelessness and poverty. Are we crazy?

Consider what we use alcohol for in laboratory research and pathology (speaking from decades of personal experience):
1. to kill living cells
2. to dehydrate living tissues, strip the water out of them
3. to strip out the fats and oils from living tissues
4. to harden living tissues
5. to dissolve most organic substances

Now consider us:
1. we are made of living cells
2. we are mostly water and need it for every physiological process
3. the membrane of every living cell is made of fats and oils; our brain and nervous system particularly require fats and oils to function
4. our tissues need to be soft in order to function
5. we are made of mostly organic substances

So, what on earth are we doing drinking the stuff?

What role model are we adults being for our young? Surely if we want our children not to drink and worship the stuff, then we should not be doing it either.
And why is it possible for giant booze peddlers to even have a right to set up shop amidst communities? Aren't governments, councils and civil organizations there solely to serve the people? They urge moderation and implore us to be responsible drinkers, while simultaneously allowing in the alcohol sellers whose only interest is encouraging us to drink ourselves senseless to maximize their profits - they can try to earn goodie points by supporting charitable causes and by "promoting responsible drinking", but the bottom line is they have a vested interest in the addiction of as many people as possible.

The problem is not the age of drinkers, or how much or what beverage or style of drinking. The problem is the drinking of alcohol, period.
Defenders are quick to bandy the so-called science "a few drinks is good for you, and red wine has great anti-oxidants". Well if you want the health benefits, be honest - spend your booze money on proper nutritious organic food and supplements. Why kid yourself by drinking a toxin that may have a few nutrients in it? The only answer is that the so-called "health benefits" are another defence to justify drinking alcohol. Whether people admit they have a problem, or claim they don't and hide behind "I'm a responsible drinker" or behind the last resort on the sliding defence scale, ie. "but anyway I like it", alcohol is an insidiously dangerous drug and industrial chemical that has a grip on everyone who drinks any amount of it, and like an invasive weed has taken root in human society.

Are you feeling powerless to do anything about it? You're not powerless. There's something simple everyone can do right now. Just quit. Totally.

FEELING FOOD

On the weekend in Esoteric Medicine class we learned that every single person must feel what is right for them to eat and drink. Commonsense right? But how do you know that what you are "feeling" is accurate? For example, if your body seems to be saying you need coffee or a sticky bun or a beer, is that really right for you? And if not, why do you feel like having it? Is it possible that what is making you "feel" is not accurate, or not true to your body?

Is it possible that you might not be feeling correctly because some fundamental sense or some form of communication within your body is blocked or distorted?

For example if your body's natural language is silenced by toxins, both chemical and energetic, how can it tell you what is right or wrong for you to consume? The very toxins you consume switch off your warning alarms so you feel that everything is OK when actually it is not. Just because you seem to be able to swallow anything you want and "get away with it" does not mean that the food and drink you choose are OK for you. They can be harming you in a continually-cumulative way that you have been numbed to and unable to feel, and many of the ways they harm are not yet known to modern medicine.

If you are one of those people who gets all kinds of bad reactions to a variety of foods, such as coeliac, asthma, allergies, nausea, bloating, digestive problems, pain, rashes, headaches, mood swings, etc, you might live a life of frustration and feel sick, abnormal, inferior, stigmatized and marginalized, and wish that you were like everyone else and could eat whatever you want. And if you are one of the "eat whatever you want"-ers, you might judge the sensitives as weak, fussy, sick, abnormal, drawing sympathy, and you are glad you're not one of them.

However consider this:

It is a natural property of all living things to be able to sense what will support vital processes and well-being or what will compromise them. It is quite unnatural for a living thing to choose or even want to eat and drink things that are harmful.

Yet the "eat whatever you want"-ers do just this. They gulp down coffee, alcohol and other drugs, sugar, soft drinks, refined carbohydrates, gluten, dairy, artificial additives, damaged fats (ie. trans fats, overheated and processed oils), nutritionally-poor, over-processed products, all of which are known to be harmful to the human body, and they think they are getting away with it, or don't care. Why aren't their alarm bells going off? Wouldn't you rather have your alarms tell you what to eat and not eat, so that you don't poison and damage your body? Modern medical science is a bright baby with a nonetheless very incomplete and in fact limited knowledge of the living physical body and even less so the realm of causes at the level of energy. What long-term effects result from not having your alarm bells go off or not listening to them if they do? At present modern medical science can only hint at some of it. But you can't wait - it is a matter of life and death to listen to your body, learn from it and heed what it has to say. It is a matter of priority to learn how to sense correctly and that ability will not come from your head or a book, TV show, website or another person's opinion. It will only come with honesty, with tuning in to your inner heart and choosing to have the courage to be true to yourself, no matter what choices others are making, no matter how others may judge you, and no matter what tantalizing possibilities are offered outside your inner self.

This subject is very relevant to fat loss and weight loss

The Sense of The Seasons

Have you ever noticed how just when the winter cold and 'flu' season comes on strong, the orange and lemon trees are bursting with ripe juicy fruit full of vitamin C, just what people need to help protect us from virus infections and recover more quickly if we catch one?

Co-incidence? No. Nature is intelligent. If we imagine the vitamin C story repeated across thousands of different plants, nutrients and areas of the earth, we start to get a glimpse into the magnitude of that intelligence. But how does nature "know"?

The fact that we even need to ask this question points to a gap in what we have been taught: you are you, I am I, the tree is the tree, we each go our own ways, lead our own lives, are separate beings. But this is only true in a very limited way.

Have you heard of homeostasis? How about just "balance" or "equilibrium"? Is it a co-incidence when in the cold of winter our bodies burn more calories to keep warm and we eat more to supply those calories, many of us even putting on a bit of extra fat? Or when you are frightened and your adrenal glands release adrenalin to increase your blood pressure so more blood gets to your muscles to help you run fast, and once the danger is over your body breaks down the excess adrenalin and you return to a calm state?

Not co-incidences at all. This is homeostasis in operation. These are examples of our whole body sensing the environment and working all of its various parts and systems to respond appropriately at any moment, to restore balance and keep all the cells and organs working optimally as the outside environment continually changes.

If we let go of the idea that we are all separate, and see ourselves and the plants as parts ("cells" and "organs") of a bigger body, the Earth, then it makes sense that this seasonal cycle of nutrients "custom-made" for us is part of the planet's homeostasis, part of its intelligence just like on the smaller scale within each of our human bodies.

Modern science hardly knows a tiny fraction of the ways this system of the whole Earth's eco-physiology, including us, works at such a detailed level. But we don't need to wait for scientists to discover it all for us first (a long, expensive and very difficult journey, I can say from personal experience!). We can get really simple and natural about it, realize that we are part of the whole and eat fresh foods that grow where we live, when they naturally ripen, and let nature's intelligence take care of us as part of its maintenance of equilibrium.
